To calculate the optimal pump start and stop points, a theoretical calculator leverages key parameters such as the diameter of the tank (measured in inches), minimum run time, and the gallons per minute (GPM) of the pump(s). The purpose of this calculator is to optimize the pump life cycle by running a minimum run time without short cycling the pumps. First, the calculator determines the volume of the tank using its diameter. Then, it factors in the desired minimum run time to ensure efficient pump operation and prevent excessive cycling. By dividing the tank volume by the GPM of the pump(s), the calculator establishes the time required to empty the tank. Adjusting for the minimum run time, it derives the ideal pump start point. Similarly, the pump stop point is calculated by considering the time it takes to empty the tank. Waterline Controls sensors provide precise data for these calculations, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
Alternatively, third-party floats can also be employed to monitor the tank’s level (measured in inches) and trigger the pump accordingly, offering flexibility to adapt to various monitoring setups. By employing such a calculator in conjunction with Waterline Controls sensors or third-party floats, users can optimize pump operations, minimize energy consumption, and prolong equipment lifespan.
