Possibly the most prevalent switch used by water level management systems today is the water float switch. The level switch also happens to be the oldest kind of switch still in use. Many will justify it's use with it's lower cost, but when you add everything up, such old methods frequently end up costing more in the end. A float switch requires more maintenance than most modern sensors and electronics, such as our probes and electronic control systems. They are also more prone to failure, and make putting together backup and fail-safe systems a more complicated procedure. Even properly functioning float switches have a constant debilitating drawback: accuracy. The water float and the stem have to provide just the right buoyancy, which many manufacturers neglect as they try to cater to the needs of industries that store more than one kind of fluid. The float switch does not, on its own, compensate for waves, and even the complicated float switch-using systems that do, tend to be even more lacking in accuracy then the average float-on-a-stick.
